5 Friday Faves (The Food Edition)

Posted in Products I Love by

I love to eat. I’m pretty much always hungry and I get into a routine when it comes to food. I’ll eat something over and over for a few months till I get sick of it and move on to a new thing. The only two exceptions to that are coffee and cookies. I’ll eat those any day and twice on Sundays. 😉 Right now there are a few food things I’m loving and thought they warranted their own post.  Read on for 5 Friday Faves : The Food Edition!

1. Magnetic Menu Board

For me anything that involves food and cooking is relaxing. I love everything from food shopping to menu planning to actually cooking the meal. And of course I love eating it.

One thing that makes this all easier? My awesome new Chalkboard Wall Decal Menu Planner from Key Reflection Studios. I used to scribble my meal ideas at the top of my grocery list and then I’d save the list all week so I wouldn’t forget what meals I had ingredients for. Now? Now my kitchen has an adorable decal and I’m organized in a cute way. Bonus points because now I only hear “what’s for dinner?” from Gia and not Jon 😉

2. Coffee (give me all the coffee…)

You all know how much I love coffee. When we were in Jamaica my love affair with coffee grew to epic proportions. The coffee in Jamaica is like jet fuel. Seriously. It’s amazing and delicious, but so so strong, not just in flavor but in caffeine –which I forgot.   I’m a 1-cup-a-day girl, and anything darker than medium roast makes jumpy and wild. Well, while we were in Jamaica I’d have a cup with breakfast and then I’d take a little to-go cup down to the beach with me. An hour later I’d be all jittery and shaky. I didn’t want to switch to decaf, but I had to. And guess what? That was just as delicious! Problem solved.

Since we’ve been home I’ve really missed the coffee. I looked all over for it but 16oz is selling for $56 on Amazon. No thanks! So I’ve been drinking Colombian instead and it’s close. It’s dark and bold and totally satisfies my coffee cravings. Now if only it was 80 and sunny here in NY instead of 5 and snowy…  A girl can sip and dream, right?

3. Goat cheese

In the summer we eat salads for dinner just about once a week. My husband grills some chicken and I throw together a Greek salad or salad with nuts and cheese. We don’t do it as often in the winter, but since we overindulged while on vacation, I was in the mood for very very clean eats when we got back. Enter the big salads.

My favorite is romaine lettuce, dried cranberries (or fresh grapes if we have them), grilled chicken, goat cheese and slivered almonds. We use organic balsamic vinaigrette and…YUM! The tangy dressing, sweet fruit and creamy cheese is just perfect together.

4. Food Blogs

Lately I’ve been so into food blogs (I read them all in one place–BlogLovin!).  I just recently found Gimme Some Oven when I made her Graham Cracker Toffee recipe (which I will be making this Sunday so I can have some bc it’s Lent. See below!). I also love 100 Days of Real Food, SkinnyTaste, Smitten Kitchen and Chocolate Covered Katie. What are your favorite food blogs?

5. Sweets without chocolate

Ok, I’m not going to lie. This is not something I’m loving at all. I gave up chocolate for Lent and it has not been easy. At night after the kids are in bed I like to sit on the couch, watch some tv, write, grade papers, and…eat chocolate. Or cookies that have chocolate in them. You get the idea. I love chocolate and I had no idea how much of it I actually ate and how much I’d miss it.

I’ve been on the hunt for some delicious cookie recipes that do not involve chocolate so look for that post coming soon!

Cookies, cookies, I hear you! My downfall too. Snow days from school this week and what do I do, bake cookies. I know you are giving up chocolate but you might want to consider trying my Chocolate Bark, (posted today). If you like toffee & chocolate together. . . this is for you. But, you might want to wait until after Lent!

I tried goat cheese a while back for the first time and really enjoyed it. I have no idea why I waited so long to try it I am generally a fan of all types of cheeses. Chocolate is my strong hold too, especially dark chocolate.

I love that meal planning board; I’ve been meaning to make one for our place! My current favorite foodie blog is Averie Cooks-her cookie recipes are DIVINE! I’ve had success with two of them so far and am planning to try another one this weekend!

I love the idea of the food board definitely something I would like to keep me organised as quite often I won’t have the same meals as my family. I absolutely love goats cheese too I have had it out in restaurants and usually comes with a type of ham haha.
