I really wanted to like this book but it wasn’t great. I love thrillers and this one was pretty silly. Based on the cover and the tone of the first few chapters that “best day ever” is clearly sarcastic, but it took a really long time to get to WHY exactly this was the best/worst day ever.
Overall the situations were convoluted and generally ridiculous. The books takes place over the course of one day and it would have been better if the timeline was longer so there was more time to fully explain the characters and their motivations. The way it is, there are a ton of flashbacks that don’t fully explain things. The narrator is creepy and the writer did a good job of getting inside his head and telling the story from his (unreliable) perspective. But overall it just falls flat.
