It’s Almost Time…

Nicholas is getting into everything these days. He cruises the furniture and reaches up and grabs anything he can get his little paws on. The other day I found him sitting with a pile of my old photo albums, flipping through them. He’s really into books lately but he’s a little rough when he turns pages so I sat down next to him and flipped through with him, pointing out family members and objects he’d recognize.

The particular album he chose was from Gia’s first year and there were a ton from her first Christmas. Talk about a trip down memory lane.

It’s no secret that I absolutely love the holiday season and all the wonderful family traditions that come with it. We’ve made so many amazing memories as a family and I can’t wait to make more this year. I can’t wait for Elife (our Elf on a Shelf) to make her 2014 debut the day after Thanksgiving and I’m already pinning cookie recipes to audition for cookie swap I go to every year. I can’t wait to decorate a gingerbread house, to decorate the tree and to decorate the outside of the house. Ok ok, the outside is Jon’s area. But still. You know what I mean. 🙂 Starbucks has already brought back the red cups and I caved and had a Gingerbread Latte today. And even though we’re still weeks away from Christmas, I’ve already started making lists and, yes, I’ve even started shopping.

So in honor Patience Brewster’s amazing collection of gorgeous Christmas ornaments and the upcoming best time of the year, I put together a little visual trip down memory lane.  As I placed each picture into the collage it brought me right back to when it was taken.

The Quinntessential Mommy

(From left to right) I remember using my {relatively} new DSLR to take Christmas pictures of Gia for our 2011 Christmas card. Jon and my mom were my assistants and I took hundreds of pictures that day just to get a few good ones. I remember experimenting with low light situations and taking pictures of Gia clowning around in front of the tree; I remember trying to get a good picture of both kids even though Nicholas was still a smushy little newborn who didn’t do much of anything; I remember snapping a quick cell phone pic of Gia in her Elfie-delivered Christmas pjs, complete with tutu; I remember taking a picture of Nicholas in our bed on Christmas morning. He was still in our room and probably sleeping most of the night in our bed. I remember how much fun Gia had decorating sugar cookies with colored icing and M&Ms and I also remember how sickeningly sweet the cookies were, although Gia certainly didn’t mind; I remember getting Gia to actually look at the camera and smile during our little photoshoot. I remember trying to set up a Christmas book photo shoot for Daily Mom and not really getting antyhing usable thanks to Gia’s crazy smile; I remember Gia being annoyed with me for taking pictures of her when she was trying so hard to open gifts on Christmas Eve; I remember dressing Gia up in her little elf shirt for yet another Daily Mom photoshoot and actually getting adorable ones this time; I remember having a little photoshoot with Elfie and being so excited that I nailed the bokeh. I remember setting up all the presents on Christmas Eve 2012 and being so excited for Gia to come down and see her new play kitchen; I remember Gia happily tearing through presents on Christmas morning. I remember snuggling with Santa’s little helper last year as I wrapped gifts with him nearby.

But most of all I remember the love. Each of these moments was so filled with love that my heart beats just a little faster when I think of each of these moments and the ones yet to come.  And although Gia and Nicholas might not remember most of this when they’re older, I will. And I’ll be able to tell them all about that love.
