I love planning birthday parties. Up until this point, most of the parties have been heavily leaning toward all things pink and princessy (except for Jon’s 30th a few years ago). So when Nicholas was about 6 months old, I had already started thinking about possible themes for his party. Because of the time of year, we thought a football theme would be perfect. And, thanks to Pinterest, I had plenty of cute decor ideas. We have a pretty big backyard and since we got Gia a trampoline for her birthday, we thought we’d have the party in early October so it could be somewhat outdoors.
Well, we got the most beautiful, sunny, crisp fall day. But it was also pretty chilly! So, with a high of 60, we set up tables all over the house and most of the adults spent time inside. The kids mostly bounced on the trampoline and played on the swingset despite the chilly weather.
Gia and I wore matching sparkly football helmet shirts, which we both loved. (I bought the sparkly iron on from Etsy and ironed them on to regular shirts for us.)
We encouraged the guests to wear their favorite football finery as well. It made for a very festive atmosphere!
The little birthday boy was a champ. He was napping as the guests arrived, but he woke up just in time for dinner. We served football food — an Italian hero, buffalo wings and chili (nuggets for the kids) — and it was a big hit.
We sang Happy Birthday to our little man, and he just sat there, taking it all in. For dessert we had football cupcakes, which the birthday boy thoroughly enjoyed.
And then there was a special visit from the ice cream truck!
Both of my kids LOVE ice cream.
We had a wonderful day celebrating Nicholas Robert!
