Cheeky Chompers Neckerchew

Neckerchew | The Quinntessential Mommy

Nicholas is nearly 16 months old and has a mouth FULL of teeth. He’s had all of his teeth since he was 13 months old yet he still loves to bite and gnaw on his fingers. At least 5 times a day he comes over to me, grabs my hand and rams it in his mouth. Then he bites down. Hard. I know he does it partly to be funny-he laughs his crazy little laugh while he’s doing it-but he also does it because it soothes his gums. His canine teeth are about 80 percent in, but I think they still cause him some discomfort.

So when I heard about Cheeky Chompers’ Neckerchew (exclusively distributed by Kalencom), I was very interested in trying it.

Neckerchew | The Quinntessential Mommy

The Neckerchew is a combination between a bib and a teething toy. It’s an adorable little neckerchief with a triangle perfect for chomping on. The Neckerchew is made of 3 layers of super soft and absorbent cotton and is reversible -it features a cute pattern on one side and a solid color on the other. It fastens easily: 2 snaps in the back make it easy to adjust the size. And the teething triangle is textured and firm (and BPA free!), making it irresistible for teethers.

Nicholas absolutely hates bibs and has for a while, so, while I had no doubt he’d love to chew on the teether, I was wondering if he’d actually keep it on or not. Well…he totally did! He loved it. I snapped it on and he didn’t fuss at all. I showed him what to do with the bottom and he immediately started chewing. Then he ran off to play. He kept it on all afternoon and every so often I’d see him grab the teether and stuff it in his mouth for a few minutes of chewing.

Nicholas still occasionally drools, so the Neckerchew was great for keeping his shirt dry too! If you have a teething baby, this is the perfect way to keep them dry and also let them chew without sacrificing style! It’s way cuter-and more functional- than a plain old bib!

MeetUp Monday {6}

Screen Shot 2015-02-15 at 8.27.21 PM

It’s Monday again! I don’t know about you, but it’s been absolutely freezing where I am (suburban NYC). We’re supposed to get even more snow on Tuesday and Gia’s off from school this whole week, so I’m getting ready for some cabin fever to set it by scouring Pinterest boards for crafts to make and new recipes to try ;) But enough about the weather. Let’s get to the fun.

I absolutely love all the posts you’ve been sharing each week. Bloggers are among the most talented people, I swear!

So…let’s get to partying! [Read more…]

6 Things I Want my Kids to Know About Love

The Quinntessential Mommy

Gia is totally into the holidays this year more than ever. She still doesn’t quite understand everything about Valentine’s day as we saw in this video, but, she’s still pretty adorable with all her talk about love and hearts and candy and the color pink. She’s really excited about Valentine’s Day and so am I. I like making heart-shaped pancakes for breakfast and eating candy and celebrating love. (Ok so I’ve never actually made heart pancakes, but I will this year, I swear. Gia specifically requested them.)

Valentine’s day can certainly be a bit of a Hallmark holiday but I don’t think it has to be. Forget about the overpriced flowers and the heart-shaped boxes of candy and focus what’s truly important. It’s a day to celebrate love a little more than we might already.

With Valentine’s day on the horizon I started to think about what I want Gia and Nicholas to know about love. I fully expect to have many chats with Gia (and hopefully Nicholas) about romantic love, as they get older and have school crushes and their first loves. But love is so much more than romance. OneDay Blog Image (1)

Thank you to OneDay for sponsoring this post! All opinions are my own.

Nearly every single day I think to myself that I wish my life had a pause button because surely my kids are the cutest today that they’ll ever be. I want to stop time but since I can’t I’ll settle for recording every moment I can. I want to be sure I remember all the adorable little things the kids do-from the way Nicholas roars when he plays with his toy dinosaur to the way Gia says “Valentime’s day”.

So when I heard about a super-easy new video app called OneDay, I couldn’t wait make videos of the kids. Get ready for the cuteness…

MeetUp Monday {5}

Back to life…back to reality… ♬ ♬ We just got home from an awesome week in Jamaica (more on that later this week), and that song is really, truly going around and around in my head. It’s gray and freezing here. There’s not a stitch of food in the house and we didn’t eat anything on plane. [Read more…]

Slow Cooker Sausage Lentil Soup

Slow Cooker Sausage Lentil Soup | The Quinntessential Mommy

One of the best parts about the winter is the frequency with which I get to use my slow cooker. I’m always looking for easy and delicious recipes that don’t call for cream of whatever soup or 700 ingredients that I don’t have on hand. Enter Slow Cooker Sausage Lentil Soup!

A few years ago my mother-in-law was raving about this soup she had at a friend’s house and my husband-who hates soups and stews-was totally into it. I knew I had to try to copy the soup without ever having tasted it. So I did my usual look-up-bunch-of-recipes-and-then-make-up-my-own thing. And it worked! We invited my mother-in-law over to try and she said it was better than the one her friend had made. My husband loved it and the kids both eat it too (minus the sausage). It has definitely become one of our staples. [Read more…]

MeetUp Monday {4}

So, while you’re reading this, I’m relaxing on a beach in sunny Jamaica with a cocktail in my hand and… oh wait. That’s not right. The only part of that sentence that’s true is the Jamaica part. Sure I’ll be on a beach, but I’ll likely be chasing a crazy toddler around or getting sand in places we don’t talk about as I build sand castles with Gia. But still, I’m not complaining. We love Jamaica and I’m so excited to be back for our annual family vacation.

Be sure to follow me on Instagram for vacation updates :)

But of course I didn’t want to neglect our fun MeetUp Mondays!

10 At-Home Date Night Ideas for Under $10

date night pin2

I love Valentine’s Day. I say it every year: I love a day that’s all about love! Before we had kids, my husband and I went out for a fancy dinner every year to celebrate Valentine’s Day. We’d get dressed up and go somewhere a little nicer than we usually go to. It became our little tradition and we both looked forward to it. We rarely celebrated on Valentine’s Day though because of my husband’s rotating schedule. He works pretty much every holiday (don’t feel bad for me. I’m used to it ;) ) so we’d celebrate as close to Valentine’s Day as we could.

Now that we have kids and his schedule to deal with, we’re lucky if we even remember it’s Valentine’s Day. Kidding. We still do something small to celebrate, but now we stay home and do something fun but low key. So if you’re staying in on Valentine’s Day this year, here are some unique and inexpensive ideas for a fun at-home date night. And the best part is that even if your Valentine happens to be under 3 feet tall, you can still do some of these things to celebrate! [Read more…]
